Accessible Furniture

If a student has physical limitations, ​travels by wheelchair/scooter, is of short stature, has fatigue, and/or has other restrictions, the assigned classroom seating may not be effective. Alternate seating/​furniture may include: desk/table meeting ADA standards, adjustable height tables, a standard adjustable chair, with or without arms, depending on need, or a fixed back chair.

Placement of furniture into classrooms/requested spaces is carried out by appropriate units on campus in partnership with DRO or, depending on the building in which the course is located, other administrative offices. There are managed classrooms (110) (most have accessible features), and then there are classrooms that are managed by departments or colleges (may or may not have accessible features).

Instructor

Although faculty/instructors are not directly responsible for this accommodation, close observation of classroom furniture and any perceived impacts is required, particularly in cases where the furniture and/or equipment needs to meet specific curricular needs.
