Employment Opportunities

The Disability Resources Office has an ongoing need for student workers to assist with access for students with disabilities. Opportunities range from taking notes for students in their courses to writing student’s answers on tests.  See below for a complete description. Many assignments are for the entire semester, while some are sporadic and on a substitute basis.  All assignments are on an “as needed” basis and may not always be regularly scheduled.  We will send general email announcements to the applicant list when a position is needed.

The following list of job descriptions includes positions within the DRO, as well as other positions related to assistive technology and persons with disabilities. These positions are constantly changing.

Job Descriptions

Tasks: Work one on one, in person, with assigned student to assist with classroom/laboratory work (physical academic tasks; note taking; scribing; writing out and solving problems in class activities; manipulating equipment and materials as needed; active use of textbook, etc) and/or provide audio description of of visually presented materials in class.

Hours: Flexible and largely dependent upon the student’s schedule.

Qualifications: You must be able to perform in the course subject area, you must have good communication and academic skills, you must be dependable and willing to commit to work for the entire semester(unless you are serving as a substitute).

Pay: $9.00 per hour.

Tasks:  Attends and takes notes each class session

Hours: Flexible and largely dependent upon the student’s schedule.

Qualifications: Excellent penmanship, good communication and academic skills, you must be able to attend course meetings for the entire semester (unless you are serving as a substitute). Knowledge of the subject matter is preferred for technical, foreign language, math, and science classes.

Pay: $9.00 per hour

Tasks: Proctor students taking tests.

Hours: Flexible and largely dependent upon the schedule and final exams.  Most proctors are typically hired during final exams.

Qualifications: Highly responsible, mature, and trustworthy applicants need only to apply.

Pay: $9.00 per hour

Tasks: Writes for a student while he or she dictates during an exam. Records word for word dictated desired changes in spelling, sentence structure, etc.

Hours: Flexible and largely dependent upon the student’s schedule and final exams. Scribes are hired at various times throughout the semester.

Qualifications: Highly responsible, mature, and trustworthy applicants need only to apply.

Pay: $9.00 per hour
