Class Notes

The provision of supplemental peer class notes is determined on a case-by-case basis by the DRO, in consideration of an individual's disability documentation or presentation of the functional limitations of a condition that severely impacts the student’s ability to take notes.

Class Notes

Approval for class notes is outlined via the Accommodation Letter. Peer class notes are intended to provide access to the information shared during lectures and do not replace the expectation of the student to synthesize the presented information. Based on the circumstances, class notes may be provided by a variety of means.

Responsibilities

Instructor

  • Identify department resources available, such as TAs, to provide course lecture notes, if available.
  • When prompted by the DRO, assist with the recruitment of a peer from the class to share their notes.
  • If the student receives access to course materials, you may request that the student sign the Agreement for Receiving Course Lecture Materials.

Student

  • Request Accommodation Letters
  • Review Syllabus and determine if effective note taking support is already offered by the instructor
  • If class notes are needed, submit a request for a notetaker.
  • Follow the steps to access the notes provided by the DRO.
  • Both the DRO and instructor should be notified immediately if the notes are not provided in a timely manner or if the notes are not effective.
  • Class notes should not be shared with anyone else.

Notetakers:

  • Provide notes within 24 hours of class.
  • Maintain the confidentiality of the student.
  • Contact the Instructor and DRO if you are no longer able to provide notes.
  • Contact the DRO with any questions or concerns.
